The Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) is the world's largest government-funded healthcare program. It provides a health cover of Rs 5 Lakh per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization across public and empaneled private hospitals in India.

In a historic expansion highly relevant for 2026, the government has broadened the scheme to include ALL senior citizens aged 70 years and above, regardless of their income or socioeconomic status. These seniors receive a distinct Ayushman Vaya Vandana Card. However, standard family eligibility is still governed by strict criteria. Let's find out if you or your parents qualify to apply online.

1. Who is Eligible for the Ayushman Card in 2026?

Eligibility for the Ayushman Card is not universal for younger citizens; it is targeted. Here are the primary categories of beneficiaries:

  • Senior Citizens (70+ Years): Universally eligible. They receive a dedicated Rs 5 Lakh top-up cover for themselves, independent of the family’s existing PMJAY cover.
  • SECC 2011 Database: Families whose names appeared in the Socio-Economic Caste Census 2011 under specific deprivation criteria.
  • AAY Ration Card Holders: Families holding an Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) ration card are automatically eligible for the scheme.

  1. Visit the official NHA Beneficiary Portal: beneficiary.nha.gov.in or use the Ayushman App.
  2. Login using your mobile number and enter the OTP.
  3. Search for your family using your Aadhaar Number, Ration Card, or Family ID.

3. Important Rules for Government Employees

Are government employees eligible? Generally, individuals who are already covered under other public health insurance schemes like the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) or Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) are not eligible for dual benefits under AB PM-JAY.

However, with the 2026 expansion for senior citizens (70+), eligible seniors who are currently under CGHS or ESIC have a one-time option to choose: they can either retain their existing scheme or opt out to join the Ayushman Bharat scheme.

Public Advisory: This eligibility assessor provides an estimation based on the official guidelines of the National Health Authority (NHA) for the 2026 PM-JAY scheme expansion. It is not an official government application. The Ayushman Card is completely FREE. Do not pay anyone claiming to make this card for you.
