Are you a recent graduate struggling to find a job due to a lack of corporate experience? The Government of India has launched the Prime Minister's Internship Scheme (PMIS) to bridge the gap between education and employability. Managed through the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA), this ambitious program aims to place 1 crore (10 million) youth in India's top 500 companies over the next 5 years.
In 2026, the scheme provides significant financial backing. Selected candidates undergo a 12-month internship, receiving a guaranteed stipend of Rs. 5,000 per month, alongside a one-time grant of Rs. 6,000. Let's find out if you meet the specific eligibility rules to apply.
1. Stipend Breakdown: Who Pays What?
The Rs 5,000 monthly stipend is a joint effort between the government and the corporate sector:
- Government Contribution (DBT): Rs. 4,500 per month is directly transferred to the intern's Aadhaar-seeded bank account via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
- Company Contribution (CSR): The remaining Rs. 500 per month is paid by the company using their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds.
- Incidentals Grant: A one-time payment of Rs. 6,000 is given by the government upon joining to help with relocation or initial expenses.
