Budget 2026: The Ultimate Guide to the $1,500 Senior CPF Top-Up
Ensuring retirement adequacy has always been a cornerstone of Singapore's social policies. During the Singapore Budget 2026, the government announced highly anticipated measures to strengthen support for older Singaporeans who may not have accumulated enough in their Central Provident Fund (CPF).
If you or your parents are aged 50 and above, the government is providing a targeted CPF Retirement Savings Bonus of up to $1,500. Furthermore, those aged 65 and above may also qualify for an additional MediSave Bonus. Let's break down exactly who qualifies and how much you can expect to receive.
1. Who is Eligible for the 2026 Senior CPF Top-Up?
The objective of this top-up is to assist seniors whose CPF balances fall below the prevailing Basic Retirement Sum (BRS). To qualify for the top-up, you must meet the following criteria in 2026:
- Age Requirement: You must be a Singapore Citizen aged 50 and above (born in 1976 or earlier).
- CPF Balance: Your combined CPF Retirement Account (RA) or Special Account (SA) savings must be below the prevailing BRS.
- Income & Property: The exact amount you receive is tiered based on your income and the Annual Value (AV) of your residence. (Typically, those living in HDB flats with lower incomes receive the maximum amount).
2. The MediSave Bonus for Seniors Aged 65+
In addition to the Retirement Savings Bonus, the government recognizes that healthcare costs are a primary concern for older Singaporeans. Therefore, eligible Singaporeans aged 65 and above will receive a separate MediSave Top-Up ranging from $500 to $1,500.
This amount is credited directly into your MediSave Account, which can be used to offset premiums for MediShield Life, CareShield Life, or out-of-pocket medical expenses at polyclinics and restructured hospitals.
3. How Do You Claim the Top-Up?
The best part about these Budget 2026 enhancements is that no action is required on your part. The CPF Board and the Ministry of Finance already have your age, CPF balances, and property Annual Value (AV) on record.
- Automatic Crediting: If you are eligible, the funds will be automatically credited to your respective CPF Special/Retirement Account and MediSave Account by December of the payout year.
- Notification: You will be notified via the Singpass app inbox, SMS (from the official "gov.sg" sender ID), or a physical letter if you have not registered your mobile number with Singpass.
Official Resources & Anti-Scam Warning
